Auto electricians specialise in reparing the electrical and electronic systems and components of vehicles.

How Are Faults Diagnosed?

Depending on the system that is faulty, engine management, ABS and airbag systems etc are electronic systems controlled by a computer and normally tested with a diagnostic tool (Autodiagnos) to give an indication of where the fault or faults could be.
Further tests consist of Oscilloscopes (Picoscope) and Multimeter.
Charging and starting problems would usually use Multimeters and power supply testing tools.
Short circuits and open circuits (break in supply or earths) are tested again with Multimeters and power supply Test Kit.

The most important element as in most jobs is experience.
